The Regulatory Affairs Administrator is responsible for reviewing, approving, and maintaining compliance of all product packaging, labeling, and marketing materials and designs for the company’s products produced and sold in Maryland, Missouri, and any State in which the company licenses its products. This clearinghouse role ensures packaging meets all applicable state laws and regulations and supports the development of compliant packaging for new and emerging markets while also ensuring packaging maintains consistent with the brand identity.

 

This position plays a key role in enabling scalable, compliant growth in highly regulated markets by streamlining packaging and marketing compliance workflows, developing systematic review processes, and supporting cross-functional teams in a fast-paced work environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Packaging & Regulatory Compliance

  • Review and approve all proposed product packaging, labels, and packaging components for compliance with Maryland and Missouri cannabis packaging regulations.
  • Ensure all packaging elements (warnings, symbols, claims, product descriptions, ingredient statements, testing data, batch information, and required disclosures) meet applicable state requirements.
  • Support packaging compliance for new states, in support of the company’s Product Licensing Division, ensuring timely and accurate adaptation to new regulatory frameworks.
  • Track and interpret changes to state cannabis packaging and labeling regulations and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality teams to resolve regulatory questions and ensure defensible compliance decisions.

Marketing & Advertising Compliance

  • Review and approve all marketing, advertising, promotional, and digital materials prior to public use to ensure compliance with applicable state cannabis marketing laws and regulations.
  • Ensure advertisements, website content, social media, email campaigns, in-store displays, event materials, and sponsorships comply with state-specific advertising restrictions.
  • Review promotional claims or programs, pricing language, discount programs, testimonials, and endorsements for regulatory compliance and risk exposure.
  • Maintain marketing compliance checklists and state-specific advertising guidance documents.
  • Partner with Marketing and Legal teams to resolve high-risk promotional language and ensure defensible compliance decisions.
  • Maintain documented approval records for all marketing materials and promotional campaigns.

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Create, implement, and maintain standardized packaging compliance review processes to streamline design approvals and reduce revision cycles.
  • Develop compliance checklists, templates, SOPs, and internal guidance documents related to packaging and labeling.
  • Act as a proactive contributor and activator of new ideas to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of packaging compliance workflows.
  • Maintain version control and approval records for all packaging materials and SKUs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Marketing, Product Development, Operations, and external design partners to ensure compliant packaging execution.
  • Clearly communicate regulatory requirements and compliance feedback in a constructive, timely, solution-oriented manner.
  • Support project timelines by managing multiple packaging reviews simultaneously without compromising accuracy.

Organization & Documentation

  • Maintain organized records of approved packaging, revisions, and compliance decisions.
  • Ensure final printed or produced packaging matches approved artwork and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with internal audits, regulatory inquiries, and compliance documentation requests related to packaging.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain regulatory. requirements clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to translate complex regulations and risk considerations into practical, scalable business solutions.
  • High attention to detail and ability to review complex packaging artwork and content.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Proactive mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • High degree of integrity, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and compliance-related technologies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between operational locations as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Business, Communications, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in compliance, regulatory review, packaging, labeling, or a regulated industry (cannabis, CPG, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, or similar).
  • Experience working with artwork review systems or project management tools.
  • Experience with cannabis packaging and labeling regulations across multiple states (preferred).
  •  Exposure to quality systems, audits, or regulatory inspections (preferred).
